Anissa's expertise lies in navigating the complexities of chronic and significant medical conditions, especially those with mindbody or psychophysiologic roots. Her approach is grounded in a biopsychosocial framework enriched by cutting-edge neuroscience and psychoneuroimmunology. Anissa brings a comprehensive approach to health and wellness. She is certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy and holds postgraduate training in nervous system health, polyvagal theory, mood & nutrition, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Her therapeutic philosophy, rooted in creativity and trauma-informed care, intertwines cognitive techniques with experiential practices, incorporating psychodynamic theories, exposure therapy, expressive arts, mindfulness, CBT, IFS, EFT, Narrative Therapy, and Buddhist teachings.
Anissa is committed to social justice, redefining mental health challenges as societal survival strategies and advocating for anti-racist, queer, feminist, neurodivergent affirming, and disability justice movements. Her ideal clients are individuals with neuroplastic symptoms and those with conditions benefiting from lifestyle changes, such as diabetes or cardiometabolic conditions. Anissa's personality, characterized by creativity, intellectual curiosity, and humor, enhances her empathetic and insightful approach.
In addition to her clinical work, Anissa is an avid artist, exploring abstract painting and art therapy, and maintains a deep interest in spirituality.
